Foundations in Maternal Medicine

This online course, offered in partnership with the University of Greater Manchester and the Northwest Maternal Medicine Network, is for healthcare professionals interested in maternal medicine, including Midwives and Specialist Nurses. Taught by expert academics and clinicians, it provides a comprehensive understanding of pregnancy-related medical conditions, focusing on physiological changes and their impact on pre-existing health conditions to enhance pregnancy safety and management.

North West Cardiology in Pregnancy Study Day (September 2024)

A one day event facilitated by the North West Maternal Medicine Network (NW MMN) aimed at multidisciplinary healthcare professionals including cardiology specialists, obstetricians, midwives and generalists interested in the care of women with cardiac disease in pregnancy.

The NW MMN brought together experts to give the most up to date knowledge about managing cardiac disease in pregnancy to support the delivery of high quality, safe and equitable maternal cardiology care across the North West.

North West Hypertension and Pre-eclampsia study day (May 2025)

This event was hosted by the NWMMN and the Action on Pre-Eclampsia (APEC) charity. Expert speakers from across the North West led talks covering the latest evidence based practices in diagnosis and management of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and pre-eclampsia.

North West Haematology in Pregnancy study day (July 2025)

This event brought together multidisciplinary experts in haematological conditions of pregnancy from across the North West. The agenda covered key topics including anaemia, thromboprophylaxis, sickle cell disease, antiphospholipid syndrome, and inherited bleeding disorders—each explored through clinical updates, audit findings, and case-based learning. The event facilitated rich discussion and shared learning among clinicians involved in the care of pregnant women with complex haematological conditions, highlighting best practices and regional collaboration.

Midwife and Specialist Nurse Maternal Medicine Study Day (9th Jan 2026)

This event brought together specialist nurses from across Liverpool Trusts to deliver training and education in their areas of expertise, linking their specialist knowledge to pregnancy. It also highlighted the importance of close multidisciplinary collaboration between midwives and specialist nurses in providing holistic care for women with maternal medicine conditions.
